The two most well-known athletes on Team USA’s track squad for the 2024 Olympics are Sha’Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles. Lyles, a native of Florida, holds the title of world’s fastest man. Since then, Richardson has emerged as one of the quickest sprinters on the track and became an LSU sensation in 2019.
The Olympic achievements to date for each of them are included here, along with the events in which they are currently competing.
Noah Lyles
On Sunday, Lyles won the gold medal in the 100-meter sprint. In his 10.79-second sprint, he narrowly defeated Kishane Thompson of Jamaica to take first place. It’s also regarded as the all-time fastest 100-meter race. For the first time in Olympic history, every one of the eight runners finished in under ten seconds. For those who were curious, Lyles came nowhere near breaking Usain Bolt’s 2008 world record of 9.63 seconds.
There are two more races left for the 27-year-old to compete for another gold. At 2:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, the 200-meter sprint gets things going. FanDuel has him as the event’s favourite, with a price of -300. Additionally, he is favourite to win Friday’s 4×100-meter relay. In the event, Team USA is favoured by -600 after winning their heat on Thursday by over a half-second.
Richardson Sha’Carri
Richardson placed second in the 100-meter sprint on Saturday with a time of 10.87. Saint Lucian Julien Alfred, the gold medallist, ran a 10.72. Richardson will serve as Team USA’s anchor in the remaining 4×100-meter relay event. In the Friday final, which gets underway at 1:30 p.m. ET, USA is a -370 favourite to win gold. In Budapest, Hungary, Richardson and the US team won the 4×100-meter relay at the 2023 World Championships.
