Tom Craig, an Australian hockey player, was taken into custody in Paris merely two days following Team Australia’s Olympic elimination. Craig was detained for reportedly purchasing cocaine from a “dealer in the streets,” who was also detained, according to TMZ.
“The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has confirmed an Australian hockey team member is in detention after being arrested in Paris on August 6th,” the Australian Olympic Committee said in a statement. There are no charges pending. The AOC is still reaching out and setting up the team’s assistance.
Craig told reporters on Wednesday about the arrest, adding, “I want to start by saying I’m sorry for everything that’s happened over the last 24 hours. I admit my awful error and accept full responsibility for what I did.”

The Australian Olympic Committee also made a statement from Anna Meares, the team captain for 2024, according to SF Gate, saying, “I cannot condone what Tom has done.” He is a kind man who made a poor choice. But choices like this have repercussions. He has expressed regret and admitted his error. We’ll be there for him if he needs assistance.
The outlet also reports that after Craig’s arrest, “no fine was imposed” and that a “criminal warning” was issued.
